Reimagining Philadelphia: A New Vision for Volunteering and Service

Date

Join Aug. 29 us for the next meeting a series of online conversations on how we can organize and build power during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

Topic: A new vision for volunteering and service

August 29 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM

As a response to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and economic shutdowns, 215 People’s Alliance co-founded The People’s Kitchen, a food security and employment survival project in collaboration with the restaurant South Philly Barbacoa. It is a collaborative of chefs, students, and community members responding to Philly’s chronic issues while cooking up free, delicious meals daily. The Project initiates base building, political education, and organizing strategies in Philadelphia to connect people, through the synergy of food, worker, and cultural platforms, into a movement that grows relationships, stimulates community dialogue, and builds political power, all while serving up 200 free, chef-cooked meals per day.

In this Reimagining Philadelphia session we’ll reflect on our People’s Kitchen project and discuss how we can transform volunteer and service efforts into a movement that builds power for a reimagined society where no one goes hungry.

215PA members and those new to 215PA are welcome!
