215PA Campaign Organizer & Field Organizer Job Call

215 People’s Alliance is hiring a full-time contract Campaign Organizer to support an innovative public education campaign.  Please read below for details.

215PA is a multiracial collaborative dedicated to fighting for equity and justice in Philadelphia at

the ballot box, and in the streets. We are parents and neighbors, teachers and students, union members and block captains, cab drivers and cashiers working to unite a broad sector of Philadelphians to make meaningful change.

In 2016-17, 215PA is undertaking an education campaign to fight for local control of our schools. Through this campaign we aim to build a new membership base focused on the future of our schools and our city.

This position is based in Philadelphia, PA.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work with 215PA leadership to develop and execute campaign strategy.
  • Lead and execute strategies to engage everyday people in direct advocacy. This includes organizing and holding meetings with volunteers, working with community organization who have endorsed or could endorse the campaign, turning people out for press conferences and demonstrations, organizing community members to advocate around local control of public education as well as to undertake neighborhood- based community building efforts that complement the campaign and expand and strengthen ties among the membership of 215PA.
  • Manage a paid Field Organizer as well as volunteers to help carry out the above activities, and committing new volunteers to support the above activities.
  • When appropriate, serving as a spokesperson for the campaign.
  • Managing logistics and documentation for planning meetings and public events, as necessary.
  • Other responsibilities as necessary.

 

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to 215PA’s mission and vision.
  • Experience running a political campaign
  • Demonstrated, measurable experience organizing individuals to fight for social justice.
  • Motivation, discipline, flexibility, discretion, attention to detail, willingness to learn and sense of humor.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build strong professional relationships with everyday Philadelphians, elected officials, organizational leaders, organizational members, board and staff.
  • Ability to problem-solve.
  • Ability to prioritize work demands strategically.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and priorities and to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • A strong team player with the ability to take and give direction.
  • Ability to attend some night and weekend meetings and events, and regular access to a car and a valid driver’s license, and willingness to use these tools, strongly preferred.
  • Desire to work in an environment that is diverse, fast-paced and community-driven.
  • Experience in managing volunteers and interns.

 

Salary and benefits: The Campaign Director salary is $45,,000 per year or commensurate with experience.  As a contract position, we are open to a flexible negotiation for the stated 6-month contract period.
