215 People’s Alliance is a multiracial organization dedicated to fighting for equity and justice in Philadelphia at the ballot box, and in the streets. Since hiring staff in the Fall of 2016, 215 People’s Alliance has been active in multiple campaigns, including the Our City Our Schools campaign to regain local control of the schools, the Dump Wells campaign which moved $2 Billion in city money out of Wells Fargo, the May District Attorney’s primary election to elect Larry Krasner and the campaign to end the 10-year tax abatement. 215 People’s Alliance has local neighborhood chapters in Southwest, South and North Philly. 215 People’s Alliance is a membership-based organization, and members pay monthly dues to the organization.

Job Description:

This 7-week field organizer will work to carry out electoral work for the 215 People’s Alliance slate of candidates. Focusing on one geographic area, the field organizer will be responsible for coordinating canvasses, filling volunteer shifts, finding canvass host locations and coordinating with hosts, cutting turf and entering data. To do this, the field organizer will be focused on relational organizing — identifying leaders to move into this work, doing one-on-ones meeting with them and connecting them with 215 People’s Alliance’s work.

The field organizer will be working with a team of field organizers as part of this citywide effort. This work will be intensive campaign work over the 6 weeks. There will be regular, if not daily, check-in calls.

Responsibilities:

• Recruit and build relationships with volunteers to play leadership roles in field campaign
• Canvassing and running canvasses for progressive political candidates
• Training volunteers in leading canvasses, recruiting for canvasses and entering data
• Keep track of data using spreadsheets, database and the VAN voter database
• Communicate with volunteers, supervisors and fellow organizers

Skills and Experience:

• Experience organizing with community or labor organizations or proven ability to move people to action
• Passion for social justice work and belief in community organizing and commitment to 215 PA’s vision of uniting labor and community for working class power
• Ability to talk to people from different backgrounds and think strategically about how to bring people in to build the work
• Patience with people, ability to problem solve and love for working with teams of staff and volunteers
• Time management skills, ability to work long hard hours under stressful conditions
• Ideally, experience with database management, VAN or the ability to learn
• Ability to think about numbers and scale
• Ability to multi-task and triage where to put your efforts given limited time

Salary: 7 weeks of work, equalling to around $43,000 annually
